Scripture
“As free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.”
1 Peter 2:16-17 KJV
“Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves. Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.”
1 Peter 2:16-17 NIV
Observation
Words I noticed in these verses were servants, slaves, respect, and honor. Commands from these verses include:
Live as God’s slave.
Honour all men.
Show proper respect to everyone.
Fear God.
Verse 17 commands that no matter the character of the “master” we are to be servants as if we are serving God.
Application
In my life the applications are not difficult to understand but harder to carry out. Especially when people are disrespectful, mean, and just down right evil. But the command that helps with these situations is that God is who I should fear the most. Not in a he’s going to get me if I don’t do as I should but more so that God is on my side and he will take care of the people who are not obeying. Including me.
Prayer
Thank you for the freedom I have found in you. Help me to serve others and to show respect to all. Even those I don’t want to. Amen.
