Scripture
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.”
1 Peter 5:7-10 NIV
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.”
1 Peter 5:7-10 KJV

Application (changing this up after learning a new way to study the Bible)
Head- How do these verses challenge my thinking?
The experiences I am going through others have too. It's not that I didn't realize this but there are times I have thought that so and so doesn't understand because they are _____. In these verses though it is very clear that my experiences are not unique to me. Rather they connect me to others who are experiencing exactly what I am. So the challenge for me is to stop my thoughts from prejudging someone because I think they have not experienced what I have. How can I know what someone has experienced? Unless I have a relationship with them that goes beyond surface level conversation I CAN NOT know.
Hands- How do these verses challenge my actions?
I am challenged to be an encourager, to uplift those around me even when I don't want too. To lend them my strength instead of reminding them of their weakness. This can look different depending on the person and the situation. For some they may want me just to pray, for some they may want me to be present, for others it might be financial, etc. Honestly it will be to obey what God tells me to do. This will be the challenge because sometimes I don't want to do what he tells me to. I am still learning and struggling to obey God all the time.
Heart- How do these verses challenge my desires?
I desire to do what God wants but I also desire to do what I want. This is how I am constantly being challenged. In these verses being humble is a command I am working on daily. Continually reminding myself that God is in control of everything and everyone. In regards to being sober I would say the distractions of this world get me. I am working to set up boundaries so I don't distract away my day. For example, I don't watch Netflix, You Tube etc. unless I am with my husband. Which was a hard boundary to set up but now that I am in the habit of doing this it's easier. Still a challenge but easier. However, I have been struggling with scrolling on social media. I was doing well in January and February but March not so much. I know I need to set up the boundary of posting and then getting off and/or limiting my "scroll" to family and close friends. Because when I allow myself to just scroll endlessly this takes time away from God, family, and friends. It takes time and energy away from what God wants me to be focusing on.
Prayer
God thank you for different ways to study the Bible. Thank you for your word. Please help me to obey your commands. To come to you when I don't. Help me to keeps my thoughts, actions, and desires focused on you. Amen.
